So we kicked off our week last night with a good discussion on Salvation. I guess that's a topic that concerns all of us...if there's more than this life after death then how do I end up saved rather than lost.
We went through John 3:16-19, where Jesus tells Nicodemus in a night conversation (P Rolle called it Nic at Nite) that in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven we must be born again.
There were three steps given in the process of salvation
- Repentance - which involves confession but is more than confession. It involves turning around.
- Relationship - walking with God daily and growing closer to Him. Sin first started as a broken relationship. So God wants to restore and continue to rebuild His relationship with us.
- Results - walking with God will show results in us becoming more like Christ.
We are saved by grace through faith. Nothing we do will earn us salvation but our lives testify to our salvation.
We saw that salvation is a present reality - we are saved from the power of sin over us and our experience of eternal life begins now...
It is also a future hope that Christ will come and deliver us from the presence of sin.
Here are some texts to check out some of what P Rolle shared with us. - 2 Corinthians 5:21, Romans 3:28, 6:23, Isaiah 59:1,2; Revelation 2:1 and 1 John 1:9.
To many it is too simple to believe that salvation is through faith in Christ Jesus. But that is the beauty of the Lord. He makes it plain to us how we are to be saved. I think most people think it is too simple and think they must do something more. But the bible teaches that as we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, if we accept His life in place of ours (die daily), He will live out His perfect life in us. John 15:5.
